Abley presentations at the NZ Esri User Conference 2022

Determining accessibility nationwide

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency have a responsibility to measure the benefits of their transport investment. As part of this exercise, they engaged Abley to determine people’s access to major areas of activity (hospitals, GP’s, schools, universities, supermarkets and town centres) within a reasonable timeframe by walking, cycling, public transit and driving. Luke Sussex and the team at Abley used ArcGIS Pro, ArcPy and Esri Network Analyst to develop an automated analysis workflow to determine levels of accessibility, such as how many people are within 10 minutes walk of a supermarket.

Automating the application of fertiliser on farms

Ballance Agri-Nutrients’ role supporting farmers to grow food for New Zealander’s comes with the responsibility to ensure farmers have the tools to determine the appropriate application of fertilisier, following the mantra of; “The right product, at the right time, in the right place, at the right rate”.

In support of this responsibility, Ballance, along with geospatial partner Abley, developed tools to guide both Ballance staff and their farmer-shareholders in the appropriate application of fertiliser.  This often involves complex properties, where both landforms and land use may influence where and how it is appropriate to apply fertiliser products. This presentation by Jeremy Clark and the Ballance team focuses on the process undertaken to transform the SpreadSmart geospatial intelligence toolset from a set of Modelbuilder tools in ArcGIS Desktop, to an automated self service web platform, and the associated benefits for Ballance and their customers.

Find out about this fascinating work at these presentations and come visit us at Booth #11 at the NZ Esri User Conference in Christchurch next week, we look forward to seeing you there!
