On 30 October 2022 in Ōtautahi Christchurch, some of our Abley team members went to Ronald McDonald House to participate in the Family Dinner Programme.
Ronald McDonald House provides accommodation for families with children in hospital. Volunteering and cooking for the families is such a rewarding experience. The Family Dinner Programme takes the stress away from families and provides certainty of a nutritious home-cooked meal at a regular time.
Once the menu was finalised and groceries were purchased, our team had two hours to prepare and cook dinner for 30-40 people. The key requirements were that the dinner should be easy to prepare, delicious for families and cater for a range of dietary requirements.
Our dinner menu included Baked Spanish Rice with Chicken and Chorizo, Baked Vegetable Stack, Spice-rubbed Salmon and a Garden Salad. For dessert, we made a Double Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Ice Cream.
Whilst this is the first time the Abley team have volunteered at Ronald McDonald House, it certainly won’t be the last. Not only is this a rewarding opportunity to volunteer and help out these families, but it’s also a great way for your team connect and get to know each other better.
Big thanks to Christina, Nichola, Lois, Grace, Aini, Aaron and Victoria for giving the gift of time for these families.
