In March, Foodstuffs South Island Limited opened the Papanui PAK’nSAVE supermarket on Main North Road adjacent to their Head Office site. Abley are delighted to have assisted Foodstuffs with transportation planning and design work on the new supermarket over recent years.
Abley prepared an Integrated Transport Assessment to accompany the resource consent application to establish the new PAK’nSAVE supermarket, emergency coordination facility and self-service fuel station at 171 Main North Road, Papanui, Christchurch. A key feature of the proposal is the new signalised intersection on Main North Road providing safer and more efficient access for vehicles to and from the entire site and improved pedestrian and cycle connectivity across Main North Road.
Improvements have also been made at the Main North Road/Northcote Road/QEII Drive signals to provide additional right turn capacity into QEII Drive, improving safety by removing filter right turns on Main North Road, and providing a safer pedestrian environment with raised platforms on the left turns and greater storage space for pedestrians.
Abley have also supported Foodstuffs by delivering the concept and detailed design of the new traffic signals and Main North Road/Northcote Road/QEII Drive improvements. These designs maintain bus priority along the Main North Road corridor and provide important pedestrian and cycle connectivity to the wider network.
It has been a pleasure working with Foodstuffs as always!
