Mt Somers tramp

Recently a group of intrepid Abley Christchurch employees and their families went on an overnight tramp to Woolshed Creek Hut.

Woolshed Creek Hut is a modern hut in the Mt Somers area in South Canterbury. It is a popular destination for new trampers and families, and is part of the longer Mt Somers Track. We walked into the hut together on a Saturday, enjoying the fine weather and exploring the historic coal mine workings along the way.

Being off the grid provided an opportunity to enjoy nature and connect with our colleagues. Making the most of the warm sunny weather, we built dams in the stream and explored swimming holes near the hut.

Hungry bellies were fed with gridle scones served with jam and cream, and marshmellows roasted over a gas cooker. Card games were played by candlelight well into the night.

The following day brought more fine weather as we walked out, with a few bravely tackling the more difficult Rhyolite Ridge track out.

Overall it was a fun weekend for those involved. We look forward to planning the another outdoor adventure for the Abley team!
