As food prices continue to rise across New Zealand our Auckland office decided to enjoy that feeling of going out by staying in and having an international lunch. Everyone brought in an international dish to share traditional, including Irish sourdough, Persian chicken with saffron and rice, English roast dinner, Italian lasagne, Israeli couscous and an Indian vegetable bhaji – we literally we had the four corners of the world covered!
The talk of the table was about the chickpea curry – was it mild, medium or Indian hot? It seemed that our collective taste buds had very different things to say on the matter.
What did I bring to represent my county of birth? A good old fashioned Victoria Sponge which tasted better than it looked . Pro chef tip – don’t bring a Victoria Sponge to work on a motorbike!
The food was great but perhaps best of all was the opportunity to sit around a big table (a table-tennis table in our case) and spend time together…something that has been so hard to do over the last two years.
