Transport Design & Engineering
We utilise transport engineering design for land development projects and improve road safety on local and State Highways. Our expertise turns transport design solutions into reality, benefiting all road users.
How we work in Transport Design & Engineering
We provide engineering design solutions delivering successful transport infrastructure and other built environment projects in New Zealand.
From optioneering, concept, preliminary and detailed design, contract preparation, tender evaluation to MSQA, we deliver for our clients across all the delivery stages. Our Transport Design team works with councils, national transport agencies and the private sector in supporting the delivery of a wide range of projects, from single intersection designs to complex projects, providing timely and high-quality design solutions. We also have a range of industry partners we can team with to deliver design solutions that involve input from other disciplines.
We deliver high-value and complex projects, including walking, cycling, urban street, intersection, land development, public transport, and road safety design solutions. We prioritise environmental, social, and economic sustainability across our projects, helping our clients achieve best outcomes while positively impacting our communities.
Our collaborative approach, our ability to work well within multidisciplinary teams and our technical expertise enable us to work with our clients to provide design solutions.
We are skilled at undertaking the design of active travel facilities such as on-road cycle lanes, cycleways, footpaths, shared paths and crossings. We develop solutions that are considered the best balance for all road users and are deliverable. Our team have expertise in accessible design aspects such as how to layout tactile ground indicators for the visually impaired.
Our team includes lead authors of the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi Pedestrian Network Guidance and the Cycling Network Guidance. We also updated the pedestrian planning and design guidance for Austroads, which resulted in a popular webinar series to train the industry.

We have expertise in urban street design which includes street upgrades and the design of new streets. Street design requires a multidisciplinary approach, and we work with urban designers, engineers, and others to deliver street designs. This includes central city or town centre streets as part of revitalisation projects, residential street upgrades and new streets within subdivisions. We are known for our collaborative approach to street design and our high appreciation of the ‘’place’’ aspects of a street.
Our team includes people that deliver the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi Urban Street Design training across New Zealand.
We are experts in intersection option assessments, the design of intersections and design review capability. The design of intersections is through all stages of the process. We consider all modes that will be using intersections and ensure this is acknowledged through best practice design.
We have extensive experience in design traffic signals at intersections around the country and provide traffic signal plans at detailed design level which can used for construction.
We are skilled in designing public transport infrastructure which includes bus priority measures, bus stops and shelters and new bus interchanges.
Our traffic signal team experience includes bus priority measures at intersections and mid-block bus gate signals.

Road safety is critical for any school. The design of school access, carparks, and routes to and within schools need to provide a safe environment for our youngest members of society. The design of a school site needs to accommodate a multitude of transport activities. We work with the Ministry of Education and are a part of project teams on school projects throughout New Zealand.
Our experience with safety improvement design includes minor signs and road markings changes, rural road improvements, intersection improvements, speed zones and RIAWS, and improvements for vulnerable road users.
We are accredited to design various types of road safety barriers, including rigid, semi-rigid, and flexible systems, enhancing safety across New Zealand's transport network.
We work across a range of sectors
We work with organisations to address transport network challenges, unlock data insights, progress transport resource consents, and optimise the use of spatial technology.
