About Josh
Josh started his career working for over 6 years at the Auckland Regional Council as a GIS analyst and then as a spatial application developer. His time at council was spent using GIS in a wide range of projects across environmental, planning, transport and regional parks. This time also involved GIS system administration and integration along with application development on both internal and external facing services.
After council Josh spent 13 years working for Geospatial Intelligence New Zealand (GNZ) as part of the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF). This time involved providing geospatial services and solutions in a wide range of applications and capabilities for the NZDF and its customers. His role over this time was as a geospatial systems developer that involved development, architecture and technical leadership using both commercial and open source software.
Notable work during this time included establishing and building GNZ’s public cloud capability for a range of geospatial workloads and projects using Amazon Web Services. Also during this time Josh led the design and implementation of a solution called Core Geospatial Services to provide global and national open data as interoperable base mapping and a search service. This solution was able to run in both connected and disconnected environments to support a variety of different systems that required these services.
Josh always strives to design fit-for-purpose, innovative solutions for customers utilising the continually changing technology options that are available.
