Becky works in the Safe Systems team at Abley. She is skilled in transport design, research and strategy development.
Becky studied Civil Engineering at the University of Canterbury, graduating with an honours degree in 2017. As part of this, she had the opportunity to study in Sweden, which included courses in integrated design, disaster management and risk assessment. These reinforced her view that transport affects everything and everyone, and convinced her to join Abley as a transportation engineer. She hasn’t looked back since!
Becky has been involved in a broad range of projects from safety audits, speed management implementation, active transport assessments and authoring research reports for Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and Austroads. Becky has experienced significant success early in her career and has won numerous awards including the 3M Safety Young Professional Award (2019), NZ Transportation Group Best Young Author (2019), NZ Transportation Group People’s Choice Award – Poster Presentation (2019) and chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Highly Commended Rising Star Young Employee of the Year Award (2019).
Becky is passionate about transportation engineering because of its complexity and ability to make a positive impact on society, including improving wellbeing and tackling climate change.
Becky’s love of a challenge extends outside work, where she enjoys being keenly involved in the Canterbury Rowing Club (as a rower and the Club Captain), a volunteer responder in one of the Canterbury Civil Defence Response teams and attempting to develop her Spanish and Swedish! Becky heads the rowing team at Abley who came fourth in a recent inter-company regatta.
