Anthea is the lead of the Wellington Region and also manages consultation and engagement. She provides a vital local link between our Wellington based clients and our technical teams across New Zealand.
Anthea also converts complex technical solutions into digestible options to allow the public the opportunity to participate in the decision-making process around their future community. Anthea ensures Abley’s commitment to creating smarter, safer, more sustainable solutions is tested through robust and measurable engagement. She does this by using advanced technology, best practice, and human-centric design.
Anthea’s career has been focussed on community service. Working predominantly in marketing and strategic roles, she has worked with multiple Wellington based charities to develop sustainable funding, while heightening awareness of each cause and advocating for conditions that will allow their beneficiaries to thrive. Expanding into more senior positions saw her lead the marketing and communications team at Upper Hutt City Council, where, for seven years, she managed a talented team who focussed on building community resilience, civic pride, economic prosperity, and better community outcomes. Some of her more significant work included mobilising the city during a protracted engagement process to understand and defend Upper Hutt’s position on regional amalgamation. This resulted in unprecedented participation in the final consultation and the development of an alternative application to Local Government reform, ultimately ending the campaign to amalgamate the region’s six Councils into one ‘Super-City’.
Prior to joining Abley, Anthea’s skills were further enhanced when she moved into the role of Executive Director of Technology Valley. Tasked with creating a localised member organisation that represented the manufacturing, technology, and research and development sectors of the Wellington Region, Technology Valley also worked across the national hi-tech ecosystem to establish collaborative production, an enhanced skills development pipe-line, advocacy for a relevant regulatory environment, and regular face to face learning and engagement opportunities. Anthea’s time with Technology Valley saw her appointed as the Oceanic Ambassador to the Silicon Valley Forum, further cementing Wellington’s status as a global hub of excellence in innovation.
Anthea is passionate about the Wellington community and is excited to apply over twenty years’ experience in strategic engagement and business development in her new role at Abley. As an IAP2 accredited engagement professional, her public interactions on behalf of Abley’s clients will ensure that community is acknowledged in planning for their future and that generations to come will benefit from intelligent thinking today.
