Kate Salmon

Transportation Planner
BE (Hons)

Kate is a transportation planner in the Safe Systems team and works on spatial and transport projects.

Kate graduated from the University of Auckland in 2019 with a Bachelor of Engineering in Engineering Science.

After graduating, Kate spent two years working as a transport planner at Beca where she was involved in a range of road safety, data analysis, traffic modelling and signals design projects. She most enjoyed the data analysis projects and came to realise how useful GIS skills would be to get the most out of the data she was working with.

In 2021, Kate decided to pursue a Professional Master of Geospatial Science and Technology at the University of Canterbury. She has recently joined Abley, working part-time while continuing her studies. At Abley, Kate is involved in spatial and transport projects, using her transport engineering experience while developing new GIS skills.

Outside of work and study, Kate likes to spend as much time as possible on outdoor adventures. She started out orienteering and adventure racing, and now enjoys exploring the back country by any mode – on foot, by bike or by packraft.
