About Paul

Paul has a Bachelor of Engineering degree with honours from the University of Canterbury and is a Chartered Professional Engineer.  He has been involved in analysing and developing solutions to transport problems throughout his career, which started in 1999.

The skills and experience Paul has developed throughout his career, along with the quality of his advice, have provided him the opportunity to be involved in several nationally significant projects.  He is a nationally recognised expert with specialist skills in the areas of road safety, strategic and integrated transport planning, and the development of best-practice guidance.

Paul is especially proud of his role as an expert advisor to a Board of Inquiry for the Basin Bridge project in Wellington and contribution to the Road to Zero road safety strategy.

The highly innovative and influential road safety work undertaken by Paul and his team has been recognised both nationally and internationally.  Paul has won awards for his contribution to road safety in New Zealand, Australia and the USA.

His standing in the international road safety community is acknowledged through his appointment to the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) Global Technical Committee, Chair of the NZ Chapter of the Australasian College of Road Safety and member of the KiwiRAP Technical Committee.

Paul really thrives on those opportunities where his work and the work of his team can make a meaningful difference to communities and road users.  From developing town centre strategies, to changing the way our industry approaches road safety, Paul is exceptionally proud of the environment he has helped cultivate at Abley so the team can do their best work.

Paul takes a lot of pride in providing opportunities to team members in the formative stages of their career and seeing them excel in situations well beyond their years of experience.
