IPWEA presentation: Quality asset data for automating 3 Waters renewals planning

Chris Tredinnick is excited to be presenting at the 2022 IPWEA New Zealand conference, being held in Ōtautahi Christchurch from 3-5 October. The theme of this conference is ‘Sustainability through Reform – taking Aotearoa to 2050’.

Chris will present on the importance of quality asset data for automating 3 Waters renewals planning. This is based on his work on the Asset Assessment Intervention Framework project for Christchurch City Council, for which he used FME to automate the identification and prioritisation of pipe renewal projects for the Council’s Long Term Plan. Automating the process enabled process improvements, drove new integrations and improved data quality for reporting.

Chris will also talk about how to overcome data quality issues as we move towards national data standards for asset management. There are lessons to be learnt from recent council amalgamations, and current digital standards. These lessons highlight the complexities of viewing the country’s three waters asset data through one lens, one data standard. Understanding and accurately describing data is the key to achieving better quality data.
