Jay sits in the safe systems team and focuses on strategic road safety analysis, safety program development, safety program evaluation and crash prediction modelling. He works with national, state and local jurisdictions to identify network safety risk to develop appropriate safety programs. He is also an experienced road safety auditor with level crossing assessment accreditation. Jay’s expertise is in strategic road safety analysis, with the ultimate goal of achieving vision zero, which means no death or serious injury on our roads.
He is also involved in transport design and land development where he works with public and private sector clients. Jay is passionate about these areas of transportation engineering and this is evident by the high quality work he produces for happy clients. Jay offers significant transport planning experience developed from working on many high-profile developments in Aotearoa and overseas.
About Jay
Born in Sri Lanka, Jay moved to Aotearoa in 2004. Jay’s highest level of education is a Master of Engineering Studies (transportation) with first class honours from the University of Auckland.
Jay joined Abley as a graduate transportation engineer in the Christchurch office in 2012. After a few years at Abley, Jay relocated to Sydney, Australia and then on to the UK and to build on his consultancy experience. Jay continued to work on road safety as a road safety auditor and delivered a number of significant development projects in Australia and the UK. Jay returned to Abley in 2018 and now focuses on delivering innovative and practical road safety solutions. He is extremely thrilled to be working in the safety enforcement camera area and also assisting various jurisdictions improve safety on their road network.
His spare time is full on with Lily (4) and Bella (1). After failing to complete his first marathon due to weather disruptions he is still chasing his dream of running a marathon one day!
