Risk-Based Safety Planning for Tribes | Steve Abley

Steve Abley joined U.S. road safety leaders in a webinar hosted by the National Center for Rural Road Safety to share insights on risk-based safety planning with Native American Tribal Nations. Steve presented the Abley SafeCurves pilot, a project that showcases our commitment to innovative, data-driven approaches to road safety. His presentation, Risk-Based Safety Study of Horizontal Curves, focused on addressing the alarming statistic that nearly 2 out of every 3 fatal crashes in Tribal areas involve roadway departures, with horizontal curves being a significant contributing factor. Through risk-based planning and the implementation of Systemic Roadway Departure Countermeasures, Steve highlighted ways to enhance safety on horizontal curves and reduce these tragic crashes.
