About Dan
Dan completed an honors degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Portsmouth, followed by an MBA at the University of Canterbury.
He started his career serving a 4 year engineering apprenticeship at GEC-Marconi, were he first got exposed to complex systems and software. Following graduation from University Dan gained a role in digital television technology research company which quickly led to becoming a developer in a telecommunications and software consultancy where he designed 2G/3G wireless network simulators and protocol stacks.
In 2004 he was brought over to New Zealand by Tait Electronics to help develop wireless public safety communications systems. In over a decade he had the key technical and commercial roles of Software Development Manager and Software Product Manager, bringing to market new digital communications platforms, SaaS based security, monitoring and remote management services.
For the last 6 years, he has worked at Seequent in roles of Development Manager, Solution Manager and Director of Identity and Entitlements, enabling the transformation from desktop based geological modelling software into cloud integrated, secure and resilient services.
What really excites me is not software technology, but what it can achieve. Providing solutions that positively change the way people work, live or make decisions is a huge buzz – the best feeling. The important lesson I have learned is listening and understanding other people’s worlds – and then working through together how things might be better.
