Innovation Project Coordinator

Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch
Closing date: 05/12/2021

Want to make transformational change by supporting Abley’s innovation? Then read on…

This new role is responsible for the development and implementation of policy and processes that support the generation and sale of Abley packaged solutions. You will also manage the development of packaged solutions as they flow through the process from idea generation through to commercialisation.

A highly visible role, you will work alongside colleagues within the New Business and Marketing team and engage widely within the organisation as well as with external suppliers, contractors, and clients.

This role requires excellent self-management and the ability to understand the complexities surrounding product development and how they can be implemented within the Abley workplace.

What you’ll be doing

While our technical people are continually coming up with innovative ideas, we are still at the beginning of our journey when it comes to commercialising those ideas.  You will be responsible for searching out and identifying internal opportunities to create packaged solutions.  You will develop processes that will convert those ideas into a workable software product. This will help us gain clarity and confidence in what we are building. You will also identify external opportunities that enhance the data we hold or how this can provide added value for our clients.  Once opportunities have been recognised, you will develop project plans to enable successful delivery.

About you

Choosing the right person isn’t simply about results.  It’s about relationships and fitting in well with our team. So, let’s make sure you’re the right person for us.  You need to be:

  • A brilliant communicator – you’ll be chatting to people in-person, via email or video conferencing, and in meetings. Your knowledge will inspire those you speak to.
  • Hungry to promote innovation – you’ll have a strong desire to showcase innovation within our business.
  • Have incredibly high standards – this is where your eye for detail is so important and your aspiration to produce quality results comes in.
  • A builder of strong relationships – it is incredibly important that you’re approachable and can foster positive relationships with those you work with, both clients and colleagues.
  • Full of positive energy – we want people to feel energised, inspired and motivated to be around you, so bring your ‘glass half-full’ attitude to work.

A few extra skills or experience we would like, but if you don’t have these, don’t let this put you off applying:

  • Understanding of Agile practices.
  • Experience of a start-up or similar lean process.
  • Experience of commercialising products or services.
  • Experience or qualification in project management.

The Important Bits

This role is full time (but we would consider part-time for the right candidate) and based in our Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch offices.

Each of our offices are centrally located with public transport only a hop, skip and a jump away.  If you’re a cyclist (like many of the Abley team) we also have great cycling facilities too.

Salary will reflect the skills you bring and the advantage you offer.  We are a gender pay neutral organisation, and offer a broad salary-benefits package.

At Abley we make waves in the technology and transportation spaces.  We have several industry ‘firsts’ under our belt thanks to our team’s unrivalled abilities in spatial and data intelligence, software development, transportation planning and engineering.  We are a tight-knit bunch and support each other to fast-track the career growth of everyone on our team.  We provide fresh baking on Wednesdays, flexibility to help you achieve a healthy life-work balance (note the order) and enjoy some fantastic social occasions together.  We celebrate the diversity of our team – that’s gender, age, ethnicity, sexuality – the lot.

We need people that are up for a challenge, love being a part of a team and are keen to support others to thrive in a growing industry.
