We are proud to be leading the way on some of New Zealand’s largest sustainable transport and road safety projects.  We’ve been at the forefront of New Zealand’s road safety strategy (Road to Zero), all stages of the Speed and Infrastructure Programme, the Canterbury Multi-Use Arena project and the Hobsonville Point development, just to name a few.

We are looking for a Business Delivery Manager (BDM) to manage our Safety Delivery team.   You will be responsible for the commercial and financial delivery of projects to our clients.  You will lead a team of transport specialists, so having fantastic people skills are a must.  The main areas of responsibility are:

  • Team Management – manage and lead the development of a team of transportation professionals.
  • Project Development and Delivery – oversee the management of projects to ensure quality of outputs within the budgeted scope of the project. Project managers will typically sit within the team that you are leading.
  • Business Development – Identify and pursue opportunities to sell our services to new and existing clients. Ensure the business plan for safety delivery is implemented.  The business plan aligns with the strategic objectives of our business, so an understanding of strategy and implementation of strategy is important.
  • Client Relationship Management – build and maintain trusted client relationships by ensuring we provide quality solutions to our clients.

About you

  • Have a background in transportation – you’ll be passionate about all things ‘transportation’ and ideally your background will align with the safety delivery area of our business.
  • Be able to deliver results – you’ll need a successful track record in both winning and delivering quality work. You will be comfortable negotiating and securing commission from new and existing clients. You will have a very capable team behind you, but you need to be driving that success.
  • Be a people leader extraordinaire – you will be leading, coaching and mentoring your team. You are high on the emotional intelligence (EQ) scale.
  • Love crunching the numbers – your background with financial, and project management will attest to that.
  • Be full of positive energy – we want people to feel energized, inspired and motivated to be around you, so bring your ‘glass half-full’ attitude to work. You will have a proactive ‘can-do’ attitude.
  • Be a brilliant communicator – you’ll be chatting to people in-person, via email or video conferencing, and in meetings. Your knowledge will inspire those you speak to.
  • Be a builder of strong relationships – it is incredibly important that you’re approachable and can foster positive relationships with those you work with, both clients and colleagues. You will use your relationship skills when undertaking business development.

The Important Bits

This role is full time and ideally based in our Auckland office.  If you prefer living further south, we also have offices in Wellington and Christchurch, so please do get in touch if any of these locations appeal.

Each of our offices are centrally located with public transport only a hop, skip and a jump away.  If you’re a cyclist (like many of the Abley team) we also have great cycling facilities too.
