This is a free tool provided by Abley to help cyclists plan better journeys. For the same trip the planner shows three alternatives: the
fastest route, the
quietest route, which prefers safer off-road facilities and avoids busy roads, and a
balanced route which trades off between the two.
Please note that this tool is currently in BETA and may have some technical issues or data inaccuracies.Cycle routes are derived from
OpenStreetMap data and built into a routable network through an automated Arcpy-based workflow developed by Abley. Preference factors for the
quietest and
balanced routes are derived from revealed-preference cyclist surveys
Broach, Dill, & Gliebe (2011). Where do cyclists ride? A route choice model developed with revealed preference GPS data.
This cycle journey planning tool is part of Abley's nationwide multi-modal OpenStreetMap-based transport network, which also includes walking, Public Transport and private vehicle modes.
