David is an IT Professional who has used his service delivery skills and infrastructure knowledge to champion best practice in the industry. He achieves customer satisfaction by applying continuous improvements to systems to enable peak performance. With over 20 years in client facing roles, his strengths are a mix of technical and interpersonal skills and the ability to provide value for a business with intelligent IT solutions.
What made you decide to work in IT administration?
I originally trained as a Post Production Sound Engineer and worked in Auckland for 9 yrs. I’ve always had a keen interest in technology and why we use it. Coming back to Christchurch I moved into the tech sector and enjoyed the challenge of realizing opportunities and to make IT a seamless and valued portion of the business.
What did you do before joining Abley?
For the past 11 years I have been working in the technology sector within Christchurch most recently as part of the Christchurch Horizontal Rebuild Project after the 2010/11 earthquakes. Prior to this I worked in advertising field as a Sound Designer for one of the top production houses in Auckland.
What does a typical day in the office include?
As with all good technology roles I make sure I am in constant touch with the staff to be aware of how it is working for them. On top of the monitoring of the systems and liasing with our third party support to keep everything running for us and our clients I am investigating our systems to make sure we are getting the right set up fit for our purpose and future proofed.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
There is always something new in this kind of role and finding value is paramount to keeping the momentum.
What’s the most challenging thing about your job?
This is a new role within Abley to have an onsite IT representative so it is a voyage of discovery and opportunity for both the business and myself.
What’s been your career highlight so far?
Being part of a wider team to assist in the horizontal rebuild of Christchurch after the 2010/11 earthquakes. Knowing there is value in everything we do is a valuable lesson and driving force.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I am the guitarist for the rock covers band called Level 6 here in Christchurch and I enjoy discovering restaurants and new foods around town.
